I like to turn costumes inside-out. If a costume is made too-perfectly, I tear out a part of it – I bring it to life by destroying the imposed order.

Barbara Hanicka has created set and costume designs for over 140 plays in Poland and abroad. At the Stary Theatre, she has worked with directors such as Grzegorz Jarzyna and Paweł Miśkiewicz. She was part of a remarkable set designer – director pairing with Jerzy Grzegorzewski. Hanicka’s set designs tend to seem “unfinished” and are constantly evolving. She is known for using mobile walls whose movements are coordinated with those of the actors’.
