Body in Theatre Photography and Visual Arts

MICET owns a rich archive of theatre photographs (3,000 pictures since 1860) divided into theme-based collections, available for viewing on a 6-metre large multimedia wall.

The collection titled BODY tracks the evolution of the way we think of an actor’s body and the ways they use their bodies on stage. From corsets being laced up with a convention, to the horror of war, to the metaphysical concept of a dreaming body, heroin chic and internet exhibitionism – we invite you to enter the visual tour of the 19th-, 20th-, and 21st-century theatre as recorded by brilliant photographers such as: Walery Rzewuski, Wojciech Plewiński, Magda Hueckel, Wunsche & Samsel, Andy Warhol, Horst Faas, Nan Goldin, and many more.
