Mirek Kaczmarek
Aestheticizing is the least of my concerns. There are far more important elements to stage design: developing meanings, interaction with the audience, functionality and ergonomics.
Mirek Kaczmarek has designed sets, costumes and multimedia elements for approximately 80 performances. He frequently collaborates with directors Jan Klata, Marcin Liber and Wiktor Rubin. Kaczmarek also designed the Polish pavilion at the 11th Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space in 2007. The magenta-colored plexiglass pavilion’s shape traced the perimeter of Poland’s borders and was a “product of the pairing of irony and defiant thinking,” which have become the hallmarks of Kaczmarek’s theatrical anti-aesthetics.
